ABOUT WINGS
WINGS = Working to Inspire, Nurture and Grow for Service
As a nonprofit (501 (c) (3) organization founded in December 2001, our mission is to improve the quality of life for people living in the City of Milwaukee. Embedded in our efforts to improve the quality of life for others is the reminder that they, too, have an obligation to improve the lives of those they come in contact with. Our primary focus includes three strands, we assist families affected by HIV/AIDS, we provide support for individuals over the age of 20 in getting a high school diploma, and we promote activities to reduce violence in zip code 53206 and beyond.
Besides our major focus on Milwaukee, Wisconsin, we have projects around the world. We have supported HIV/AIDS work in Kenya, Tanzania, Haiti and South Africa. We have been instrumental in building an orphanage in Johannesburg, South African called The Power of Women and Children.
Goals
Provide housing support for people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Support nonviolence in Zip code 53206 and beyond, through events and education.
Support people who want to earn a high school diploma to improve their quality of life.
Our goal is to continue to assist individuals living with HIV/AIDS in this community with basic food, clothing, and housing grants. In 2008, we implemented the Diploma Project and over 50 people received their high school diplomas. Most of the graduates are now engaged in more meaningful employment, and other post secondary opportunities that were previously closed to them. We are able to continue our work in the targeted areas of Milwaukee thanks to generous donations from our corporate sponsors and individuals who believe in our mission.
